Hey guys, Has anyone played/owned a Warwick Corvette Standard 6 string? I wondered how the weight was and if you have any other comments on it. I've had a Corvette Standard 4 string for 10 years now. I was thinking about a 5 string but then got tempted by 6ers and now I've got a bit obsessed by them.
I had one and liked it a lot, but the cons for me outweighed the pros. *Pros: Sounded AWESOME(I'll admit I'm partial to Warwick's tone)- uniquely leaning toward a vintage-P's tone, if you could imagine that. I've had a few Vettes, & this was unlike any I've heard before. It also played very nicely, and balanced very well. *Cons: Too-tight(for me)string spacing, overall weight(12 lbs)and thick neck(front-to-back). Added to all this was the fact that at the time I also had a Ken Smith 6, & I really cannot justify two fretted 6s(although I do have 2 now, they're fretted & fretless semi-sisters).
i own an early one...a 1997...brass nut, recessed strap locks ect...it sounds, looks and plays awesome...but it is heavy as hell...being a nashville player i will strap it on for a 4 hour shift...but im worn out afterwards! if mine was stolen or lost i would replace it...no doubt!
I had one which I traded. The bass had a killer sound. The only downside was that the bass weighed a ton and made long sets difficult and painful. All in all I miss the Warwick and would love to eventually add a six string Corvette back in the rotation giving me matching 4,5 and 6 string 'vettes.
Mine rocks. It is a 1999 with an all wenge neck... I wouldn't want to own a current production one. The neck on mine is pretty thin and the overall weight is a little under 12 lbs. Tone is great. The spacing is tight, but I have no trouble slapping. I hardly play it now though, went the custom route and have a six string LEJ. PM me if you are interested.
