So my band's practice was cancelled today. So, I decided since I was already out of the house to play music, I'd go to a music store. Well I went and there they had this one rig set up that caught my eye immediately. I walked up to it and it was one of Warwick's Hellborg rigs. It included a pre amp with a 500watt power amp and a 2x15 cab. I've played Warwick rigs before and they didn't speak to me, but this set up looked so cool, I had to plug in. SOOOOOO NICE!!! Beyond crystal clear sounding, played a fretless Thumb with roundwounds through it, sounded exactly like a piano. The overtones this thing put out, was an effect on its own. I played without the EQ on for most of the 2 hours that I played it. It was a thing of beauty. Drop dead sexy. The build quality is impeccable, blushed aluminum knobs, with back lit LED's, classy. It looks futuristic. I've never played nor heard anything like it. It's $6000, but after playing it, the price really doesnt seem all too high. It was that impressive! I can't even imagine what putting effects in front of it would sound like.

I'm GAS'ing hard right now...I would sell a kidney for this rig at the moment.

Anyone played or own one of these things?

  2. I think the price prohibits a fair amount of stores from even ordering one :)

I have the preamp, but use it with a QSC PLX 3602 with either 1 (or 2) AccuGroove Tri-110 cab(s) or an AccuGroove Whappo Jr.

I've tried writing this post 3 times over in different ways now, to try and describe the experience of performing with this rig, but nothing will sufficiently explain how clean/dynamic the sound is short of playing it...

It's not a fearful, so it can't possibly have sounded good.

    And yes, I'm being sarcastic.

  5. ahh but imagine the amp paired with a Fearful!

Thanks for the hot coffee out of my nose. I love my fEARful "66", but that comment was the best way I can start my day.

I was in Norway once. Oslo wasn't very nice, but all the country side I saw was just breath taking. Cheers, my Nordic friend. Now go try a fEARful. :p

Yeah, Oslo is nothing special, I only ever go there to play shows.

And I'm quite happy with my poorly designed svt810 thanks. :D

You have a very generous music store to let you play bass for two hours.

I've had a few opportunities to play the Hellborg rigs. Over the years I've played nearly everything (or at least a few samples from nearly everyone!)....hands down, these are the most amazing amps available right now. Component choice, build quality, and of course TONE! Ultra-wide frequency response, very touch responsive, tons of headroom, and just buckets of PHAT! (steve bailey uses the pre hard-wired in his studio....its THAT good!) Jonas Hellborg is not only an amazing musician...but also a genius in the electronics field. Great amp!!

I know people...the main bass guy at the store was just handing me basses to try through it, I played a couple Warwicks, a Marcus Miller jazz and an 80's P bass through it. While the Warwicks sounded beautiful, and I love that Warwick tone, I'm a Fender guy at heart, and I have never heard a Fender sound that good. So clear, so, so clear.

And I'm not surprised fEARful was mention within the first couple posts. I never tried one, I want to, and I'm sure they are really that good. But I would stay with the Hellborg cabs, because they were made to go hand in hand with one either, and they look so sick.

The only house you could afford at that point would also be made by Behringer!
