What length do I need for my Fortress 5? Do I do a standard 34 scale or do I need longer?

    Thanks

It varies by instrument. Best thing to do is measure from ball end to nut to see the exact winding length you need. Most likely the minimum length on that instrument is 37"

  4. Warwick's Fortress's are 34" scale.

They have some models in shorter scales but that's not one of them.

Not all strings made for 34" scales are the same winding length though. For instance, a 36.5" string is too short for a Warwick. Ask me how I know!

After PMing with the OP... His bass is 36.5" Ball to Nut and 38" Ball to Post. So 36.75" to 37.75" is ideal for string manufacture length.

    Thanks Jason!

  8. Hmm, good to know. I've only ever purchased long scale strings for my Warwicks (DR's and Ken Smith's) and never had a problem... But never say never.

I need to revise the DR number. They are more like 37.75 on average.

A bass like this will take up to 38" depending on the manufacturer design
