SOLD Warwick Thumb 5 BO

Discussion in 'For Sale: Bass Guitars' started by OhNoLookOutRUN, Jul 28, 2017.

  1. Price:
    Warwick Thumb 5 Bolt-On.

Ovangkol body, Wenge neck and fretboard. Serial number reads as '97. Could use a good cleaning, but no problems. Previous owner was a heavy picker, some cosmetic damage on one of the pickups from picking. Some other minor scrapes and dings from regular use, but nothing noticeable. Comes with owner's kit (though the warranty card is for a different bass) and flight case.

I'll cover up to $30 in shipping (from 63366), which should cover most of CONUS. Shipping might cost as much as $40 to the west coast.

Bought used some time around 2005 or so as a backup for the Thumb 6 that was my main player at the time. Sold the Thumb 6 in 2011 and rotated this one up front. I find myself playing my J and P more often and last gigged with this in late 2016, and it hasn't been used since then, so I'm selling it off to feed the the GAS.

    More pics on request.

Are you sure the body is Ovangkol and not Bubinga? I thought they used bubinga till 99.
  3. I was told at time of purchase that it was ovangkol, and honestly, I don't know enough about the woods to be able to tell you just by looking at them. I'm reading up on it and it looks like they switched from walnut to bubinga in '95, then introduced ovangkol in '97. Some of the '97 Thumbs were still bubinga, some ovangkol.

    I'll contact Warwick to verify.

That's Ovangkol. You can tell the difference pretty easily.
