I recently played a warwick thumb bolt on 5 and a Musicman stingray 5 and i really loved both of them for there different tones what do you prefer? which has more longevity? is it possible to change the ugly head design of the music man and retain the sound quality?
recently i bought a new bass, the Warwick thumb bolt on 5.... it was between that and the string ray 5, i went with the warwick for the feel and the tone... it just felt right.. the sting ray was still a GREAT bass and i will eventually own one too but i prefered the warwick over all the growl just stood out to me more so than the sting ray, but try them both out with your rig and maybe even at a band practice ( if your in a band and thats possible)
i too chose the warwick thumb 5 over the music man stingray 5. i was pretty much dead set on the ray until i just happened to randomly pick up the thumb the day i went out to shop around with the hopes of picking up a new ray. within one minute of playing the thumb, i knew it was the one i wanted and i bought it that day. i also agree with derekp and will most likely own a stingray 5 someday. i think it is an excellent playing bass with a great sound. the thumb just won me over with the signature growl. as far as the fat neck, it doesn't really bother me as much as it does other players. after playing it every day for a good while now, i don't even really notice it anymore. good luck on your quest!
