Indeed there was. It's a 4-CD set called "Hitsville USA, The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971".
  3. Thanx for the info Headroom. Is there a breakdown of all the musicians that played on each song featured on this CD collection? I'll be on the lookout.

Not track by track. However the collection does identify the group of studio musicians that Motown used on their Detroit recordings (known as '"The Funk Brothers").

I can also recommend the recent Funk Bros. documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". I'd look for its appearance in your local video store in the not-to-distant future.

There was a CD that was available for a while that had many of the Motown songs on which he played with the bass mixed way, way up so you could hear him distinctly. I downloaded many of the songs from Kazaa. They haven't turned up for a while though. I wish I knew the name of the CD. Sorry.
  6. I wish there was.

Maybe someone here should make one?
