Weak pickups in Millennium?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by BusterDog, Mar 10, 2008.

  1. I bought a new Peavey Millennium 5 BXP.
I really like the feel of the neck, & the bass overall.
When I got it home & tried it on my rig, I realized that it's output is really weak compared to my other basses.
I plan to use this with an A/B switch along with my main bass, so changing amp settings is not an option.
The pickups are already a bit too high, so I can't raise them up.
    Should I:
Change pickups? I can get Basslines SJ5-3s at Guitar Center.
Upgrade basses to the Millennium 5 AC BXP with active electronics. Guitar Center will let me return the bass.
  2. Do you like the tone of the stock pickups?
If so, stick with the stock pickups, but toss in a Bartolini preamp. (Vol,Pan,B/T stack version)It will bring that bass to life!
If the tone is lame, then I'd upgrade to the AC version. the Cirrus pickups have a great tone to them IMO.
  3. Thanks,
    I've never tried a preamp.
I'm leaning towards getting the active model bass. It has much better reviews.
