Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums here. (Have been reading the electric bass forums for quite a while though) I was just wondering if someone could maybe point in the direction of some sites that may have higher end (15,000-20,000) basses for sale, preferably vintage. I'm in the market for another bass and have come up kind of short while scouring the net for double bass sites. I did a search on the forum here but couldn't find too much.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

It's very difficult to buy a DB on the internet. You don't really know what you are getting and they are to expensive to ship two ways if you don't get along with it.

You must travel somewhere and play them in person. In addition there aren't all that many so you often need to go several places a good distance apart to find some selection. There are several bass dealers in various pockets of the US and EU that you can visit. Tell us where you are and we can make some suggestions.

Look at this thread towards the last couple pages.

    You'll get the idea.

Oh and while $15 to $20K is the top of Vintage Electric Basses it is the beginning of the bottom end of Vintage Double Basses.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I figured as much that I'd have to travel somewhere to try and buy. I have been playing double bass for quite a while and got my music degree on the bass that I have currently, a late 80's Schroetter carved top. Though I'd like to get something different now.
I'm located in ontario canada, just across from Detroit.
More or less just wanting to see whats out there.

How far are you from Toronto? Theres a few good shops in the downtown area, like Heinl's and the Soundpost.

    Theres also this: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/drh/msg/727393542.html

edit: you could also take a trip into Detroit? Someone might be able to point you to a good place there.

actually I'm in Windsor so going to detroit is like a five minute drive, and TO is about 3 and a half. The bass I have currently was actually purchased at Heinl's I may check them out and see what they have in stock.

Michigan. Guarneri House in Grand Rapids. They make and sell. I don't know if Steve Reiley is still making basses or not, he makes very good bows. His son Aaron is making some wonderful basses.

I'm not sure about Detroit. A few years back some of the bass guys wanted me to move there because they said there wasn't anybody.

Chicago. A440, and Michele Fiore. I'll be there for a few months starting August.

And on this forum: Arnold Schnitzer, Nick Lloyd, Ken Smtih, KC Strings, Bob Branstetter, Upton Bass and Jeff Bollbach.

    Apologies to those left out.
