Weight (Fender)

  1. What's the difference in weight between an average 4 string P-bass and a Jazz?

    nothing too significant... or atleast nothing I could tell... The J might be lighter because I have a J-Retro in my Jaco.. but both my basses are pretty heavy.... but nothing I can really tell off the back without weighing them

    There's as much difference in weight between one P-bass and the next as there is between the "average" P and J, in my experience.

    Check fender.com if you want exact weight figures. I'm sure they have specs on there somwehre.

    I have 3 Fender Basses and all three are 9lbs.
    1958 P = 9lbs.
    1963 J = 9lbs.
    1963 P = 9lbs.

    I've felt Fender basses in the 8-12LB range in both the P & J variety.
