Anybody know what that unusual looking bass the bassist for Alien Ant Farm plays? I saw them on Mad TV this weekend and was puzzled.
heres a picture: The Kenneth Lawrence Brase is a 5 string bass with a hipshot bass XTender key on the B string, so it can be dropped to A. It also has a upper-horm that attaches to the neck for increased sustain. It costs $3750 direct.
That version of "Smooth Criminal" they do is pretty cool. He gets a pretty good sound out of that bass.
damn it! how many times have we gone over this people? IT'S A KEN FREAKIN LAWRENCE BASS! (sorry, i've had a bad day)
his 6'er isn't a Kenneth Lawrence, he does own a kenneth lawrence 5, but the one u see him using in the video etc, is a custom bass built by him and a luthier called Dave Parr *Si*
I voted for not ugly too. But anyway, some have said that his Ken Lawrence is not a 6'er, but I do know for a fact that the Brase does come in a 6 string version, and Im almost 100% possitive that he does use a Brase 6 in the "Smooth Criminal" video, in the "Movies video, it was that Dave Parr bass.
With that Dave Parr custom I thought he built a lot of it. I know he wired it himself. I like that Ken Lawrence. In the Smotth Criminal video how many strings on it? Hard to tell.
There was an article (1pg) in one of the recent Bass Player mags on 'em...and the one he used on most of the recording was his custom-made 6, that he designed (apparently he did a helluva lot on it) and made with Dave Parr. Beauty is in the eye of the be(er)holder...that Ken Lawrence is a pog, but then again I reckon the Bender Collision is tres funky...
there is a good article on him in bass player mag. in it there is a good close up of the bass he made with Dave Parr. he did all the wood work and electronics and Dave Parr set it up (truss rod, frets etc.) the bass with the upper horn connected to the neck is not the Dave Parr custom.
I saw Alien Ant Farm live in Montreal and he was using a 7 string, actually.. couldnt tell what brand though, i wasnt close enough. I thought he was pretty damn good though.. and that was before they became popular. Compared to other 7-stringers i've seen live, i think that guy is one talented dude.
yeah i guess your right i havent heard enough of there music to judge him, but honestly is there a need for a 7 string with there music???
