Weird issues with amp noise with cord but not with G-10 wireless transmitter

This one seems pretty strange to me and I'm not sure where to start. I just got a cheap bass that needed some TLC. It works just fine when I run it through my Line 6 G-10 wireless transmitter. When I tried a cord all I get is a loud buzz, no signal just the buzz. Sounds like something is not wired right but I do not understand why it would work with a wireless transmitter and not a cord. I've confirmed that the cord is not the issue. It's a passive P style bass with the usual volume tone control arrangement. Anyone have any ideas?

One possibility is that your signal and ground connections are swapped at the bass's output jack.

Since the transmitter works, both connections must be present at the output jack. The transmitter does not rely on a ground connection to the amp, so the signal to the transmitter is basically a balanced signal at that point.
