    Hey all,

i was wondering if anyone else found the brite swtich on the Kern, too hissy?? also, does your "deep" switch seem VERY subtle? i can hear it, but its very faint.

    anyone?

    Joker,

AAHhh, you're just looking for excuses to heave it off so you can pick up a new Epifani pre when the come out! LOL!

Nope. I leave the bright switch on and don't notice any hiss at all. And I never use the deep switch. That thing is fat enough without it!

lol, dev! but Nick still hammering out the details, i guess i'll just have to settle in with the ol' Kernie for now. ;)

    Boog,

so since your brite boost isnt hissy at all, i guess my pre is kinda weird?

With the treble and tonal balance anywhere above 1 o'clock the bright switch does add a little bit of hiss on my kern. The deep switch is rather subtle, but imagine how ridiculously overly phat the thing would be if the deep switch wasn't subtle. I rather like the way the deep switch is voiced.

but dont tell me you're a part of the HomeStar website!!!!!!

  7. Try some different preamp tubes. Especially if it came with Sovtek 12AX7WA's or WB's.

no. I'm just a fan. You're not the first person that's asked me that either. Maybe I should change it so as not to mislead people.

Well, I seldom get the treble knob above noon. So maybe that's the diff?

No problems here. I rarely use either switch, but when I have used the brite switch I haven't gotten hiss. Although, as BoogieBass says, I never have the treble knob past noon. Rarely makes it past 10am.
