Well, I traded basses...

  1. Well, if you saw my last new bass thread, you know I had bought a teal active MM S.U.B.. I loved it, I really did, but not quite as much as I did that d***ed Natural Ash Fender Jazz. No matter what I tried, I just kept regretting not getting it.

I thought that once I upgraded my amp, that would change. However, I took every last bit of my old gear up to GC, and got a used Behringer Ultrabass BX1200. Even with the upgraded amp and, therefore, better tone I was getting, I couldn't shake the Jazz from my head.

I would sit there with the Peavey and the MM and tweak and tweak on the knobs trying to get a "Jazz growl" out of them. Welp, I finally just decided to give in, and head up to GC to trade the MM for the real deal. Though it wasn't much of a deal in the price department, I love it. I find it to be the most aesthetically pleasing bass I've ever layed eyes on (even though the gf just put a tiny ding in it as I typed this), and it's tone is just under the sweet American Jazz I played. Definitely the sweetest sounding MIM I played.

Anyway, when the money provides, I'll probably upgrade the bridge, pickguard, neckplate, and tuners. I was thinking about a pickup swap and throwing in a pre to, but I don't know that I really want to play with the tone, other than changing the strings.

Now with the tiny ding in it, I ought to make the woman have it refinished to. Does anyone else have this problem? Two dogs run right next to my basses on a daily basis, and she is the one that puts the ding in them. :rollno: Every bass I've owned thus far, has suffered this fate under her. I used to think it was because I had no stand for them. Well, apparently not, because this bass was in the stand when she knocked it over.

Anyway, it's not real if you don't have photographic evidence, right? Well, I'm more than happy to share the eyecandy. :D Also, I'm more than happy to trade a destructive gf for a refinish and string through bridge job, as well. :p

  2. i bought a MIM jazz 5 stringer and i cant say enough about it, the low b was giving me trouble but i fixed that. but the ding you mentioned if funny cuz i carried mine around and (accidently) banged it up and there are no scratches or dings or anything on it.

I've always hated the S.U.B. or Super Ugly Bass, so you made a good decision. I've played the Ash MIM at GC once, it was excellent. I'd get one if they came with a maple fretboard.

    Nice score!
  4. That Jazz is fine! Anyone know if it comes in a fretless?
