I picked up a 5 string cirrus and the guy told me it was a wenge top? I thought wenge was used for necks? It is a dark wood that I figured was walnut. Anyone seen a wenge top Cirrus? Anyway whatever it is, it is like all Cirrus basses I've played...sounds and plays awesome :bassist:

Yeah, I think Peavey may have stopped offering wenge at some point, but it looks like it's back, at least through the new (coming soon) custom shop, per rcz's post.

So yeah, if you were told it's a wenge top, no reason to doubt that it is...

    :)

I used to have a wenge top Cirrus. Great bass. Although cosmetically it was a bit banged up, I think it was my favorite sonically. I just wasn't afraid to really dig in because it was already a little scuffed up. Here's a pic. Great bass.

    I pronounce it, Wayne-gee

  15. i had a bass teacher back in the late 90s (a couple years before warwick gained in popularity) who pronounced it "when-gee". previous to that, i had thought it was "whendge".

I heard that the recent demand for wenge couldn't be met and that was why prices went up. If the jacka$$es cutting down the rainforest are plowing up an extra acre to get me a wenge fingerboard, I'd rather have maple.

  19. as far as i've heard, only mike tobias and warwick are making that claim, but i could be wrong.

Plus I had read that the short supply wasn't because of dwindling resources, but rather due to political instability in the region causing difficulty in getting product to market.

Wenge is from the congo in Africa, not from the South American rainforest.
