So I decided I need to get rid of some of this extra weight I've been packing away. So I go the the work out room and get on the treadmill. HOLY CRAP am I out of shape, I barely made it a mile and was completely out of breath. That just means I've got to keep it up I guess.
It gets easier. Stretch your legs, wear good shoes... in like 2 months you can be running 3x that much! I never ran a continuous mile in my life before January.
Don't know your age, but be careful. Check out this link. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I'm only 31. I used to run every day about two years ago, until a loose belt on a treadmill at the gym I used to go to just about wrecked my knee. The belt suddenly changed direction when I stepped forward. Well the knee healed up, but I got lazy while it was doing so. Sooner or later my cloths aren't fitting so well, so its time to get my jiggly but back in shape.
Yep I know, about 2 or 3 years ago I could go 6 miles continuously. I will get back to that soon, cant wait to do so.
I did my first outdoor run in a while today. Home from my mechanic. About 3 miles. In 98 degrees of blazing hot sunshine. I too used to run around 6 or 7 a couple of times a week. My knees and ankles had enough of that though. Been running on a treadmill, but miss running outdoors. I think today I may have gotten the bug to do it again. As others have said, it's important to stretch. I run like 5 minutes, slowly, stretch, then go another 5... stretch again... and pretty much take my time. If I feel I need to walk a little nowadays I don't beat myself up over it. My joints thank me.
