Went to a flea market, came back with a bass !

Not sure what my plans are. Probably just hold onto it for a while, maybe use it for studio stuff. It’s a really great sounding and playing bass, to be honest. And the sound is very different from most of my other instruments, so it makes sense to have it. Plus, because they’re cool, I’m going to assume that fender will stop making them sometime soon. And then any year or two everyone’s gonna want one, and the prices are going to start climbing… 😂😂😂 so it’s not a bad investment the way I see it. I can always get my investment money out of it.

If you hate it, I’ll give you your money back 😁

Congrats on the killer deal man!

The closest I've ever come to buying a bass at a flea market was a random weird 60's Japanese fever-dream of a bass, probably a Teisco, but it would have been a wall hanger at best, it was essenailly unplayable, but oh.. so cool looking. The local flea markets in my area are the usual junk, but you never koow what might appear. Nice score.

I was a little bored so I went ahead and drove to a flea market, not really expecting to find much. I did find a cool rifle case for eight dollars that I’m going to use for transporting fishing rods while I’m on the road, but that wasn’t the real find of the day…

Tucked in the corner of one booth was this little fella… A Squier Paranormal Rascal HH Bass ! It was a new condition, still had the plastic on the tuners and the pickguard …. And they were asking $265 for it. Still a pretty great deal, but I decided that I was going to try and talk them down because that’s the way my grandfather taught me 😁 So I asked for his best deal, and he said $235, to which I replied “I’m going to walk around a little bit and I will think about it”. So that is what I did, walked around and thought. And at the end of my flea market trip, I went back and offered him $200… Which he accepted!

So I got what is essentially a brand new Rascal Bass for only $200 ! I had no plans to buy one of these or anything like that today when presented with the deal like that I could not pass it off.

Anyway, no photos, no Rascal Bass, so here are a couple of photos

Wow, even $300 would've been a bargain!

Yeah, usually flea markets are not the greatest places for instruments! 😂

Amazing deal for a great bass! I love mine. It's a bit on the heavy side but it sounds so good and I think they look so cool. I've never seen anything great at the flea markets around here but maybe one day...

Thank you! Yeah, this one is pretty good at 9 lbs. 1 oz. A little heavier than I like, but certainly manageable. And I could probably save about half a pound by changing to hipshot ultralight tuners, putting titanium saddles on the bridge, and changing those knobs to lightweight jazz style ones.

I know it sounds crazy to worry about half a pound, but I actually have cancer tumors in my spine, and found out last night that part of the reason why I have so much pain in my back is because I have compression fractures in my vertebrae as well. So basically I’ve been walking around with the broken back. Pretty understandable why I was dealing with so much pain. 😂
