We're all just renting our equipment.

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Bigskybassguy, Feb 15, 2016.

  1. It took me until age 58 to realize that we're all only really renting our equipment.

Example: We'll buy a new $500 Loudifier thing, use it for a few years, then with inflation we'll sell it used for, say, $350.

Our rent for that use was $150.

Now with cancer, I realize how much stuff I'm just "renting" so I can enjoy it while I can.

Inflation or not, Loudifiers just don't hold their value like they used to.

Received a gift from Sire* (see sig)
"Loudifier" would be a great brand name.

Gear, Oxygen, Our Bodies, the amount of Time we're here for... it's all on rent, essentially.

I seldom buy new, so the rent is very low. Hope you hang in there and keep paying rent for a LONG time!

  9. If all of you are renting, then by my calculations you owe me a lot of $

Good luck with the cancer, hoping mine is gone for good. Really puts things into perspective.

  14. I've sold some stuff for a profit, after using it for a while.
I guess you could say I got paid to use them.

  16. Maybe not, but didn't the Vikings used to put the person's most prized possessions into their funeral pyre?

I don't sell my basses or amps, so I'm not renting anything.

  19. I've used & sold a lot of stuff in the past, but I'm pretty much done with that. If I sell again, it will be near the end of the road or I am in some crazy dire straits. Actually, if I were in Dire Straits, I'd prefer to be Mark Knopfler, because he finger picks everything.
