I know you have them out there...
I bought one of these in 1982...
And in the nineties I had one of these...
Both nice basses, did lots of gigs with those. But I don't think this is destined to be a megathread.
Does anyone remember the RockSchool TV show from the '80's? It was made in England and aired on PBS over here. The bass player had fretted and fretless Westones. That was a great show--it was my first exposure to Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins.
My first bass was a red Westone Spectrum. It cost £85 in 1989. Looked something like this (but red)
Definitely had this not overly attractive headstock...
The bass player in my brother-in-law's band played a Westone for many years. It always sounded great actually.
Wow - I never saw that one.
Battlestar Galatica + Gibson Grabber= Rail bass!
I have a couple, and have owned two others.
Electra Westone Spectrum - This one came with a fretted and a fretless neck. The fretted neck was on another Spectrum that I had, which got stolen.
I also owned a pearl white Westone Pantera 5 string.
I loved that show too. The bass player was quite good and spoke in the proper Queen's english.
nice bass j-raj...i've always been interested in the rail bass as its the first one i've ever seen with that movable pickup...i'd love to try one!
here is the pic i first saw, taken from the bunny bass website
It was like the Blue Peter team had been asked to produce rock school.... and I too had a westone thunder II or III during the 80s ..cant quite remember but it played good for the money!! but i hated the badger stripe and pointy bits.
Heres my Thunder II. I have posted it before but, meh, I'll post it again!
Have to agree that this has little chance of being a "megathread".
Sorry but it was worth a shot.
But, it's still fun.
I actually had no idea that there were so many Westones out there.
I know , I was just testing the definition/boundary of "Megathread"...
Actually that isn't my bass, but I had an odd G.A.S. 'bubble' for a rail bass last Thursday night and wanted to see others that owned them.
And I appreciate you going to the trouble of doing so
Any excuse to post that pic again!
I am at work just now and am away out on the lash tonight but I have a couple of websites you might be interested in. I will try and hunt them down.
I had been looking all over for some info on the Westone Company and found nothing then a helpful chap named AlexofC69 gave me these links. Some are quite interesting.
Well I thought so
post 'em here when you find them.
enjoy the rest of you work-day!
My early 80's Thunder IIIa Fretless is (obviously) the one on the right. Got it off Ebay from the UK - it's pretty much like brand new. Only has one scratch that idiot me put on it after it arrived...
I'm sure some will think I'm crazy, but I've always wanted a Jaydee, but the wife won't let me spend alot on a 5th bass, so I've ordered electronics/pickups from Mr. Diggins and I plan on making this into a poor man's Supernatural...
My first bass was a Westone Electra Spectrum I scored on EBay - it was black, and looked like it had been blasted with a shotgun. I stripped it, gave it a tung oil finish, a set of SD basslines, hipshot bridge, all new electronics, and a set of tapewounds. It's still my main instrument... Sorry, no pics - I'm camera-less...
I found some pics of a Westone Pantera 5 string like I used to own.
