Whaddaya think about the Carvin Probass 500?

  1. A well known used dealer has one for $249 and I need a head, so what do you guys think, will it work or is it crap?

  2. For whatever it's worth, I used one for 11 years playing quite
regularly. I didn't have any complaints until just a couple years ago.
It started to "heat up". It might be that I just didn't notice until
then either. I had it serviced, and it seems to be working fine.
I still have it as a back up, and for some smaller gigs.
I switched to a pre/power set up, otherwise, I'd still be using it.
I like the tone, and the built in compressor works well.
The noise gate turned out to be very handy also.
Another perk is the xlr direct out. The soundmen I've worked with
    have always like that.
Plenty of power, especially since I have almost always played
    with PA support.
For that price, I'd say grab it quick if it's in decent shape.
Is it in it's original gray carpeted case?

  3. Actually it is still in the fuzzy carpet rack! Do you have pics of the back of your PB500? Does it seem as though it actually puts out 500 watts or is it over-rated?
    Thanx for the reply....

  4. I don't have any pictures of the back of MINE, but here's
    something that might help.
I have a hard copy of the owner's manual that Carvin emailed me
a few years ago. I can't seem to find that anywhere on the
    web now.
I think their very good heads. Like I said, it got me through
    hundreds of gigs.
