I decided last night that I'm going to start acting my age - this applies to outside of work only. When i was a child i acted like a child. I have to start wearing top siders and dress like heizenberg & BE old.
I'm confused. How you act at a certain age today has been re-defined. For example, a grandma in the 1950's was just supposed to rock in a chair, wear mumu s, bake cookies and tend to the grandchildren. We have different terms and expectations for grandma's today (no need to elaborate).
William James answered that question in the nineteenth century: thirty. Despite this dating back two previous centuries, humans haven't changed enough to alter the answer.
Hey Chuck. How old ARE you? I got started a little bit late on having kids. I was almost 40 when the first was born. And at 42 they are 4 and 1 1/2. Oddly enough, they keep me YOUNG. Nothing is more fun than running around in the pouring rain with a 4 year old girl just giggling the whole time. At 35 I would have never dreamed of running around in the rain. We blow straw papers at restaurants. We race shopping carts in grocery stores. We're just freaking silly. I love it. So, having children has actually made me LESS mature. Who would have thought? My partner in crime.....and her baby sister.
Children are great, now I get to do these things with my grandson. Also the the ages in my band range from 16-years-old to 60-years-old. And that 60-year-old bassist likes to have fun with the kids ,
I firmly believe that everybody continuously realize that they were so childish and immature a few years before, we continuously mature and change, and evolve. This means that technically we are never the old and wise people we think we are, we are just a bit older and wiser than the previous year or decade. Which means that you could spend your life not acting your age, because your present you is always going to be a clueless childish you, compared to the future you.
You sir are lucky, and wise! I don't think you should ever 'act' your age. Be as youthful as the situation will allow.
I am not sure what acting your age means. You will always act your age whether you realize it or now.
Don't go getting all literal on us. Here we are trying to have a deep meaningful conversation with total strangers about life and the meaning of it. And you jump in with the whole "If you are 42 then you are acting 42 crap." Go be literal in a thread about the tone differences between stainless steel and chrome ashtrays, will ya?
