This p-bass came up on CL, I’m going to look at it tomorrow and I’m hoping to get your thoughts on it, what to look for, what to look out for? The author already deleted the post so I don’t have the specifics but owner says it’s a parts bass with badass bridge, jazz neck, custom pickguard and ‘62 pickups. He said the body is an Affinity, but not a Squire Affinity. Are there other Affinities? And any thoughts on the headstock and logo? To my eye looks different than a typical jazz style.
The headstock looks wrong to me. Something about the shape doesn't seem right. My guess is it's not an original fender jazz neck, probably some sort of replacement with the decal added afterwards.
I know what to look for. Shapes, contours, finishes, etc. That may not even be a Squier or anything Fender licensed at all. Is what it is....
Someone trying to fake a Fender. Misplaced 70s decal. Truss access at the headstock. Low budget tuners. That headstock shape even looks off for a Squier.
Def a parts bass..looks cool actually...hope you can plug it in and have a listen first.........kudos to the tom servo avatar
Neck isn't Fender. Affinity is about as low as you can get. I wouldn't believe what he said about the pup.
Its a Squier affinity p bass with a new pickguard and new fender Jazz bass decal. There are decent affinity basses out there. Some are mediocre, some are great. Fine bass for $150. No more..good luck
You could probably sell the BadAss bridge for $75 and put on a Squier bridge for about $10 - so there is that. The decal is put on wrong so it looks cheaper (i.e. fake) than if it had no decal or still had the Squier decal.
You’re all wrong! It’s not a Fender or a Squier, it’s just a big hot mess! It was 200$ so I surely overpaid but I bought it for what it is: a bunch of random parts slapped together. My plan is (maybe was) to add a j pickup (I have an extra one lying around) and defret the neck. This is a just-for-fun project, with lots of potential to further ruin this hapless bass, but if not then I’m sure I can get most of my money back out. Anyway, here’s what I found behind door number one. I’m not a pickup scientist so I have no idea if they’re ‘62s or not.
Sometimes an improbable collection of parts will come together and just work. I hope this is one of those. At least it looked like full size pots and some shielding, so maybe whoever put it together at least had some clue.
