I would like some opinions as to what amp would work best with a Markbass 104HF 8 ohm cabinet, both technically and musically speaking. About my own situation: I own this cabinet, and play a Fender Jazz or Stingray HH when I do play bass guitar. The thing is, I'm 95% of the time an upright player. For my upright, I use a variety of Acoustic Image products with a mic and/or pick-up. As many of you probably know, that's a whole different sort of rig and approach. Now that I'm playing a little more electric, I've got the aforementioned Markbass cab. I can use my Acoustic Image head, but its not "ideal..." Gigging around, I played through some other gear last summer, the house back line and such, and found that tonally, some generally cheaper, clunkier, older rigs had a sound that was more in line with what I liked for the bass guitar. Nonetheless, I have this Markbass and don't understand the tech specs and so forth... How can I get the most out of it? So, if you can offer any informed opinions as to what I could use to power this particular cabinet, that would be much appreciated! Thanks
Thanks for your input! And I do realize it all comes down to personal preference, but from the technical standpoint, I still don't even understand what the best options are. I don't really get how to best match my cab with a head, in terms of power. So, any opinions/advice in this regard are welcome.
ANY bass amp will work, there's not alot of matching, other than watching the impedance. But with an 8 ohm cab, about the only head I could think of that wouldn't work well is an SVT, as it has taps for 2 or 4 ohm operation only. Go play some amps, see what you like.
I have the same cab and I use a Markbass F1 head with my mine. I play a passive J and P basses the tone is deep, responsive and warm. I have also tried the little mark 2 and LM Tube heads with it but prefer the F1. I like how it is small and fits in a laptop bag too. John
Same as above, but I use a LM III 800watt head. Great combination. Lots of tonal flexibility and punch. Super power when you need it . . . lots of headroom when you don't.
