I was just thinking about a couple of songs that have vocals but no lyrics. The first one is Prisencolinensinainciusol by Adriano Celentano

And here's a bonus TV sketch version.

The other is Chacarron Macarron El Chombo

One thing that makes songs like this interesting is how the writers came to publish them without lyrics. Prisencolinensinainciusol was an exercise in exploring language barriers in international music. How does a song sound to someone who doesn't understand the language that it's sung in?

Chacarron, from what I've read, was a filler scratch take. The writer knew how he wanted the rhythm of the vocals, but didn't have lyrics. While in the studio he did a goof take so that there was something to write around while working on other aspects of the song, people in the studio thought it was so funny that that ended up being the actual vocal in the published song.

What are some other quality pieces of music that have vocals, but the lyrics are just gibberish?

Some of Les Claypool’s stuff sounds like this to me.

Lots of music with the Cookie Monster vocals

Phil Collins gets honorable mention for the nonsense word Sussudio

This, by Michael B. Tretow, who was the engineer with ABBA, and Ted Gärdestad; a singer who is now nearly canonized in Sweden, under the alias "Caramba"

I refuse to learn Swedish, so anything by Abramis Brama is abdolutely babilno golu in fire hydrant which makes it easy to focus on their friggin great riffs. Musically, For Mit Blodande Hjarta is a pretty neat tune.

Paul McCartney is famous for using nonsense words as place holders while writing songs, then writing the words after. (Scrambled eggs became Yesterday) Jon Anderson of Yes has also said that many times he chooses words and phrases for their sound instead of any intrinsic meaning i.e. Yours Is No Disgrace.
