i am looking for ultra smooth strings. i like the ribbon wound Chromes, but apparently they are no longer being made.

are there strings out there smoother than the ribbon wound chromes? i prefer the lowest tension possible as well.

what are the smoothest strings you have ever played on?

    thanks!

I think that D'Addario has just changed the name of Chromes to XL Chromes. According to their web page, they still have a "delicate outer ribbon winding."

As far as smoothness, I've found Ernie Ball flats to be very smooth as well, and reasonable tension, depending on gauge of course.

I really like the feel of Sadowsky flats. Very smooth to the touch.

As for tension, they aren't quite as low as TI Jazz Flats, but definitely lower tension than the D'Addario Chromes on my PBass.

    Labella flatwounds are very smooooooth.

Surprisingly, so are the cheap Fender flatwounds.

  5. I love the Rotosound flats, Nickel. nice and smooth...

I have never tried pyramids (too many brands, too little time, flatwounds last too long :D ), but I have found that chromes are less smooth than the other flatwounds I have tried. However, my rock bass is strung with chromes and I love them.

TI flats were the smoothest I've played, but I didn't like them much. Not enough tension.
I prefer the LaBellas, and the fenders I like too.

yeah i tried the ti flats but i found the d'addiro chromes much smoother. i love their low tension.

  13. I use both TI Jazz Flats and DA Chrome Flats and the DA's are smoother than the TI's. If I drag my fingers when moving up and down the fingerboard when strung with TI's, I hear finger squeak that I never hear with the DA's.

you must have the 9120s because i think fender only makes one other type of nylon string which is the 7120s. The 7120s are not smooth, they are rounds wrapped in nylon. Actually i have a new set of 7120s i bought by mistake when i meant to order the 9120s. now i dont know what to do with them. i am trying to trade but so far no takers.

The Labella FL760’s are as smooth as Chromes, and I prefer their tone. TI’s aren’t quite as smooth.
