What are you learning right now?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by MikeyFingers, Oct 4, 2005.

  1. Point of thread: What song are you working on/relearning at the moment?
Right now, I just started on Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand. The playing doesn't seem that hard, but it's a long song with lots of changes. Should be a fun little challenge. And you???

    I'll play:
The first two songs off of Maroon 5's album Songs About Jane . Great album!
  3. I'm currently reviewing my bands stuff, and making cues for when to stop or go a different direction in our "semi-improvised" jams.

I've just started jamming with some new guys, so I'm learning some of their older songs (4 I need to learn properly), but the mainstream stuff I'm learning is as follows:

Nine Black Alps - Shot Down
Lenny Kravits - Are You gonna go my way (finding this REALLY hard, does anyone have any OTHER tabs from the ones that are on the net? Find them difficult to follow.)
Led Zeppelin - Rock 'n Roll (Again, lots of variations, finding it quite hard)
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
    Metallica - Master Of Puppets
    RHCP - Can't Stop
RHCP - Californication (Just refining it, I pretty much know it all, but there are some chorus variations I need to perfect)

Working on original material from the 'Teeth - gradually honing and refining my lines, trying new ideas and making sure I can nail the old ones 100% of the time.

Mind you, it's been a while now since I last worked on learning someone elses lines so it might be time soon to do a bit more of that to open up some further new approaches.

I've started studying jazz with my private instructor, so for the forseeable future I'll be learning to walk/improv over a lot of old jazz standards (Impressions, So What, Autumn Leaves, Watermelon Man, Sweet Georgia Brown, Misty, etc...). :bassist:

Oh, I started working on learning Freehand by Gentle Giant a week or so ago, so I'll probably go back and finish that up also. Heh heh...

I've been working on "Let's Move to Cleveland" by Frank Zappa these past few day, on keyboards though, in a cheap imitation of Stefano Bollani. I want it to be my sorta show-stopping number whenever I go somewhere and there's a keyboard.

I'm doing that right now on my own. Since I quit my rock band a month ago, I've been going through the real book and re-practicing walking. Also going through The Evolving Bassist.
