Hopefully nobody else has been in this situation, but I'm sure I'm not the first.

I jumped in with a new band. We only have a few practices in and a show was already scheduled before I got there. We don't have quite enough songs to do a show. We'd like to have at least five more, and we only have two practices left.

    So my question is:

What are the songs that you've been able to pull out of the back pocket and work up in just a rehearsal or two ?

I know there are a million three chord standard progression songs out there, but for some reason, we can't seem to think of them. I guess it's harder to memorize lyrics than it is to play the easy stuff. At least that's what the singer says.

Well, what are the easy songs that have saved you in the past. We play everything from 60's rock to brand new alternative.

    thanks,
    Dave

How about "I Wanna Be Sedated" or "Blitzkrieg Bop" by The Ramones, "Real Wild Child" by Iggy Pop, or U2's "New Year's Day" or "With Or Without You"?

All of them simple, yet catchy and very recognizeable. Good luck!

  7. I'd say anything by The Doors could be a life saver. Everyone knows them, they span the musical generation gap like no other, they aren't really difficult (at least on bass).

Yes, I know that Ray Manzarek used the old Fender keyboard bass, and thats precisely why the bass lines are quite simple.

I can't remember when a cover song has taken more than two rehearsals to get down. It's a cover tune, so I darn well better know it going in. Then it's just a matter of their particular arrangement.

  11. "One" by U2 is a cool and simple song (just like most U2 songs).
