What are your goals?

Until last year, I was a university varsity swimmer (now graduated). I always found that writing down and discussing my goals with others helped me to progress in my swimming career. And now that I've picked up the bass, I think doing the same on this forum would not only be good for my own musical journey but also to get to know what other people's goals in the community are/were and how they plan(ned) to achieve them. And heck, it might just help a few others out there as well :)

And so, to kick this thread off... My goal is to become proficient enough to take part in jam sessions. I want not only to be able to follow along but also to improvise well enough to feel that I can express myself musically the way that I want to. To achieve this goal, along with studying and practicing the fundamentals of the instrument and music theory, I want to find people to jam with so I can learn hands on where I fit into a group as a bass player.

Welp, that's all from me at this point. Again, I'd love to hear what some of your goals are as well :) Best of luck to all!

    My goals:
    - To crush your enemies
    - To see them driven before you
    - To hear the lamentations of their women

    Not quite there yet.
  3. I get it. You're a Thrash Metal Punk player?

My goal is always to become better at anything I'm doing musically.

Not always easy. Getting better often requires work, dedication and commitment. With a good dose of frustration at times.

Anytime you're trying to outdo yourself it's often more perspiration than it is inspiration.

I just want to break some of the boring patterns I've developed in my playing. I want to be a better soloist, and an even better supporting musician.

My goals as a bass player:

    Keep the dance floor full.

Be respected as a go to player in the town where I live.

Have fun, be gracious, and be kind.

Learn where our art came from and apply.

    Maintain family/bass balance.

I want to be as comfortable in every situation as a bassist as I am as a drummer.

  11. My goal is to be good enough to play the stuff I want to play.

Better than that, I don't need to be.

This is a hobby, and it's something I do for convenience and enjoyment.
