What bass distortions are their?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Unemploid, Jul 6, 2014.

  1. i'm wondering what's a good distortion pedal for bass. not an overdrive or fuzz, a pedal that is specifically a distortion pedal.

There's plenty out there. I currently have three.
    MXR M80 DI
    Tech 21 Sansamp
    Darkglass B7k or B3K

I used to use the Sansamp for most of my distortion but I got the B7K yesterday and it's pretty much replacing it.

Fuzzrocious Rat Tail is both a killer Overdrive and a Distortion!

I second the Blower Box. I had a Turbo Rat my guitarist friend gave me that was awesome except for the low end loss. The BB has a low end knob that is borderline magical. The price is right too. Speaking of price, I actually love the Ibanez PD-7 Phat Hed. The Hardwire SC-2 Valve Distortion is also great for a low price. It does overdrive, but it shines in the distortion range imho.

Give me a few days for my Fulltone Bass Drive to come in and I'll probably tell you you need that! :)

I'm digging the T-Rex Bassjuice as well. Super versatile with the blend knob and two stage of foot switchable gain.

Another vote for the Blower Box. The kick-ass to cost ratio is insanely good.

Heavy Electronics El Oso. Does everything from mild to wild, and has a clean blend knob as well.

Pretty much anything that is a Rat based circuit has the potential to be cool. The Blower Box gets great reviews around here and I want to try one. I've got an Earthbound Audio Iron Pig that is killer, and now they make the Acid Pig.

Another very awesome option, and my personal favorite, is the Brimstone Audio XD-1. It's just a killer pedal. Kinda pricey and large, but it's worth it IMO. They are coming out with a smaller version in the next couple of months too. I like it so much that I might end up picking up the smaller version even though I own the big one :)

You're gonna get a different reply from each member. Maybe try to focus on a kind of sound you like (e.g. from a recording) to get more targeted ideas..

For me, I find that my TAFM serves the whole range from OD to Distortion to Fuzz really well. There's nothing that pedal can't do.
