Just saw Paul McCartney's great show. It's nice that he uses the Hofner the whole night instead of relegating it to a "Beatle spot" (which on this tour would be the whole show).
When Mr. Mac goes to guitar, what bass does Brian Ray use? Is it the other Hofner that is so big these days (Darryl Jones broke one out for a couple of tunes with the Stones).
    Next big show: Cream!

The Bass Player article this month said Ray was using a new Yamaha.

  4. According to Sam Chapman on the Alembic board: "Guild M-85 bass. I couldn't tell what his amps were, but he did have two Ashdown 4x10 cabinets."

Sorry to revive such an old thread. Just saw Sir Paul and it looks like Brian Ray is playing a Gibson SG Reissue bass. Could see Paul's Mesa Boogie Rig but also saw some Ashdown cabs.

Anyone have any more details about Brian's current gear. Strings, amp head, etc?

Yep, Brian relegated his trusty old Guild M85 bass to the closet, probably because those things weigh alot (around 12-13 pounds). Brian now has two Gibson SG Standard (reissue) basses in his arsenal; one is his main bass, and the other is a back-up.

He's primarily a guitar player. And a real good one. Very talented and very nice cat.
