What bass is Tom Hamilton playing on Mama Kin?

  1. Does anybody know what kind of bass Tom Hamilton is playing on "Mama Kin" off of Aerosmith's first album. I love that tone!

    I don´t know.......but I´ll bet a lot of money it was a Fender P-bass.

  3. I've seen a pic of him with a Gibson Thunderbird, single-pickup version- that's my guess. it sounds quite clunky in a way that suggests a mahogany neck + humbucker, rather than the maple-board P bass he's often used.

a mention of the T-bird here-

Most photos of him aroound the time of the first album show him playing a Mosrite bass.

I've never seen a shot of him with his T-bird!

    May have been a G&L 1000.
    Tom played them early.

    Mojo-Man,

The first Aerosmith album predates the first G&L basses by 7 or 8 years.

I read yesterday in a Bass magazine, not bass player but that other brand new one, either way he said he played a mosrite in the early days, so i suppose that's it.
