hmm, now that i have my Ric, i need more low end! its already massive, but i really want some type of sub cabinet. what would be a good choice... i don't want to spend over 200 on it. i was thinking either a 1x15 or maybe a 2x12. For 1x15's, i was thinking a Bag End. i hear alot of good stuff about them, they are cheap, and small/light. but whatever. please help me out! also it has to be 8 ohms, and i don't want like a 1000 watt cab, because i'll only be pumping 450 through it. the Bag Ends have a good rating for me. Please help me out.

    Thanks,
    Scott

  2. back in the 80's my Ric was huge thru an EV loaded Kustom 4x12 and a Yamaha 1x18 PA sub

it was a great set up... I replaced it with a pair of Bag Ends. IMHO although the big rig was fun, the Bag Ends blew it away in clarity and projection

btw, congrats on the ric :bassist:

hey thanks alot. yeah i'm leaning toward the bag end. do you know if there is a huge difference between all the models? i know there is a S-15 D, and the one i found is a S-15B-D. for 200. the sensitivity is good, 103 DB, and i believe my hartke is about 100 DB. i know it'll be louder than the hartke, its a good thing! but are the Bag End's good for low low stuff? i'm not a 5-banger, just have my 4 in drop D alot. i noticed the frequency range goes down to 40 hz... whatever. are these real nice and bassy? all i want is "balls" in my setup. just something to get everything i can out of the Ric. BTW, i'm loving this thing!!! plays beautifully, sounds like the Voice Of God! but it only sounds like that through my rig, which is cool. i ran it with my buddy's SM-500 thru a GIII cab, and it totaly like sucked the life right out of the Ric. The ampeg adds alot to it.

EDIT: also, at my local Music Go Round, they have a "Sonic 1810" which is a 18" and 2 10's. i'd like to try this out. then i'd have 6 10's and a 1x18. that would be INSANE.

romeoarmada....I played the Peavey version of the 118, and 210 cab. It was awesome. There is a guy in Florida that is selling his Peavey 1820 for $195, no lie!

The S15B-D is killer for low end (this is a big mutha and 70 lbs). The S15-D's are usually OK for 4 strings, but I don't know about dropped D (probably two of them would kick).

Bag Ends specs are very conservative when it comes to freq. range ratings.

would the s-15B-D be good for drop D?

    thanks,

  8. the little 15 does nice with a low 'B'... I'd imagine the big one would be bassier. Do a search... there is a custom Bag End that had a single 15 in the extra deep 2x10 cabinet. It's supposed to be the deepest if I remember correctly.

  9. get a 21 incher...that should treat you good.

i want to spend max 200 dollars...

  11. Good Luck! Avatar maybe? A new BagEnd is just a little bit more.

[edit] oops... you found one used @ $200. Dude, if it checks out as fine... jump on it. Bag End makes Pro Gear! If you don't let me know, I'll take it.[/edit]

    haha.
yeah i dunno about it though, i'm just gonna go check out some cheap 15's by myself. if it gets snatched up i don't really care. theres alot of 1x15's around here that i can test out for around 100-200 dollars. i don't really need tone, but just thump.

EDIT-the avatars are a little more than i want to pay. (has this ever been said before???)

Since you have a Limit of $200 max you may want to consider 2 possibilites:

    1) Used Equipment - usually 1/3-1/2 new prices.

    2) PA Subs - usually work well for bass as an additional cabinet to fill out lows if used in a biamp setup.

For used equipment you might try www.musicgoround.com or ebay.
www.musicgoround.com is a chain of Music stores that primarily deal in used equipment. They test equipment before selling also. Try a search on Sub or 18.

PA subs with 18's usually hit lower frequencies than PA subs with 15's. If there is a guitar center in your area, they probably carry a dozen different PA Subs. PA subs are not intended to be ran as full range speakers and should be crossed-over to sound deep and punchy.
Used heavy PA subs are typically easy to find as bands tend to sell heavier equipment to purchase lighter equipment. Used lightweight subs are very hard to find.

Yeah man, these were all on my list. i hate buying new stuff, unless i really need it and can't find it used. theres about 7 15"'s at my local music go round, all under 200 dollars, so i'm gonna check that out. good idea on the PA subs, i'll check that out. thanks man.

I got a 215 cab, with Peavey Black Widows in it. I will never sell it. It rocks.

Buy this cab. You will not regret it. $119 is a good price. I paid almost $175 a piece for my BW speakers alone.
