I'm usually not one to let what happens to a piece of wood bother me, but that looks like a bass autopsy photo. :(

Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to do that, plus axe it to pieces while it was burning........... :ninja:

I think he's got something there. Slap about 10 coats of clear lacquer and...instant Tyler Hazmat finish :p
  9. I agree with Ostinato, just put some clear coat over the top, once i stare at it, i reckon it would look great and damned original!

Black hardware too :p maybe a neck from warmoth with custom HAZMAT or similar inlay  :smug:
  10. A thing like that could kill a man...

No, don't clearcoat it for all eterniy. That's the kinda finish that you need to keep real and let it evolve over time. I LOVE it and think that a few years of giging abuse will only add to the character.

I'm wondering how long it will take for someone to declare it has mojo. :D

It looks like candy apple red over a two or three-tone sunburst that was then set on fire. Whew! Fender charges top dollar for that kinda' stuff! :D

Yes, that guy who did this with his bass heard from his grandpa, that old paint coat could be removed with heat....and used a gas burner...as you already assumed....
Guess what he did with his bass in the end!
I've got a photo with the result :D

I agree fully. Just sand it a little to smooth it out, slap on some poly, and play it. That would rule.
  18. Is that splat or burl? I always get them confused. :bag:

    Lets see that picture!

Some people shouldn't be allowed near the letters DIY. In fact, some people should have these letters removed from their name.
