That's a really cool looking bass. If I didn't already have an El Toro I would be all over it.

I think it is the same bass. $1499 is nuts though. They can be had for half that price. I hope they don't think that the color alone is worth all that extra money.
  9. I would have gone with: Hot Rod Yellow.

Audrey, did you pull the trigger and get the El Toro?

Come to me, you nasty yellow bull!

It's the same bass that was listed for $1499 on that site, which was stoopid money, of course.

Been waiting years for one in an oddball finish like this. Paid premium cheese for it by my standards, buy hey you only live once, right?

Not sure of the exact color name, will have to do some research. Will update later for any other interested Gleeks.

I was watching the auction, went a little crazy right at the end. Congrats! I just picked up a blue one 3 weeks ago, and am loving it!

Well, Mellow Yellow arrived today. I'm surprised that it's in much nicer condition than the auction pics would have me believe. Low miles on this bad girl. Zero fret wear. Even the OHSC is in great shape. Elec components and cavity are pristine.

Neck and body stamped July 1988. I have never seen a G&L in this finish, so color me mystified.

Anyway, it took a setup very well, and it plays nicely. Typical El Toro sound, very strong signal, powerful low mids. Different flavor than an L-2000 obviously, but just as monstrous in its own way.

Haven't weighed it yet, but it's heavy, like in the 10lb range. This is my third El Toro, and though I didn't bond with the previous two, this one is just too cool not to like.

If anyone knows the true name of this yellow finish please chime in.

Well, this may be really boring, but the official name in the 1988 brochure was simply "Yellow". It was mainly used on the SC-3, Invader, Superhawk and Rampage, but, as on your ET, was also used on other models (though rarely).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks GG, that helps big time.

I know there were some obscure, short-lived G&L finishes over the years....was there ever one called "Candy Lemon"?

And do you have any info on the two-tone paint jobs found on some Interceptors? TIA
