What cover song do you play that never fails to get 'em dancing?

Discussion in 'Bass Humor & Gig Stories [BG]' started by Stevie Barr, Dec 3, 2006.

  1. Just wondering, if you're having a bit of a slow gig as far as the dance floor is concerned, what is the "secret weapon" in your arsenal that always gets them up? Ours is "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison (which is odd as it was never a hit in the UK, I believe,) which we always follow with Jackie Wilson's "Higher And Higher" to keep 'em there (which coincidentally, I just learned today, the Funk Brothers played on as a non-Motown moonlighting session, including I assume a certain Mr. Jamerson, but I digress). So come on, what's yours?

Yup. Brown Eyed Girl is 24k GOLD! It never misses. Well, this one time it did, but that was a freak thing.

Play That Funky Music is another one that packs the dance floor.

We've got a few of those...

Hold On, I'm Comin' (Sam & Dave)
    Rock & Roll (Led Zep)
    Mustang Sally (Wilson Pickett)
What I Like About You (The Romantics)

Or, if a particular female fan is there, well, there's dancing to *everything*! She loves to dance, she goes around getting other people to dance, and its works. I wish we could have her at every gig!

    Cherie :) :bassist:

"Young Hearts Run Free" by Candi Statton works well for us. Also "Dont' Stop 'Til You Get Enough" by Jacko.

  19. One odd one that seems to work for us is "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones. We also do a lot of the usual cliche "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Sweet Home Alabama" stuff that works too.
