Well, I was looking for a GK 700RB-II amp head. My old amp was going on me. I had about $400 saved already so I wasn't planing on buying the amp now, but I heard about the green tag sale so I figured I could save a bunch of money. However, I was a bit disapointed to find that the amp was the same price as listed (I ended up getting the amp for a great price-amazing by the way..but that's not the point of the story). Now my "local" guitar center is not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house, so I figured I would take a look at the bases. I imidiately was drawn to a Spector Legend 4 bubinga. I picked it up and I have such G.A.S. I can not believe the sound that came out of that thing. It had such a great funk sound, the sound that I love, and actually got one of the few sounds that my bongo just can't quite hit exactly. I have to say that I was extremely tempted to buy the bass right then and there, but I'm not one for an impulse buy. So the moral of the story is, Don't play spectors unless you really want to buy one. hehe. but seriously, what do you guys think of them, that is spector Legend 4? I was planning on sabign up for a sterling, but now I just don't know.
Congrats on the new purchase, I'm glad you like it. I just got a GK 1001RB-II, and it is AMAZING. Enjoy the new bass
One of my basses is a Spector Q4 (which I believe was discontinued and replaced by the Legend). Excellent value for money but shop around because prices seem to vary.
Heh-Heh-Heh. The same thing happened to me. I was looking to purchase a Fender Jazz for about 6 months. Then I played a Spector Q4 (new, 2002 leftover in a small music shop) and fell in love. I bought that bass a week later and have forgotten about buying a Jazz. Now, I'm GASsing for a Euro 435 LX setup for BEAD. Gotta save up the $$$! Paul Mac
I tried the Spector Legend once. Upside down seeing as I'm a lefty I couldn't exactly try it how I wanted. But From what I could tell it was great Funk/slap bass.
I had a Spector Legend for a while. It was a nice looking bass. It was well constructed. The sound, on the other hand, was VERY FiElDy-esque. I say save for a Sterling
Strangly my Guitar Center had a Spector Legend 4 bubinga with a green tag also yesterday. Sadly my "local" guitar center is so crammed that its impossible to sit down and play a bass. Plus it was high on the wall and finding a sales person would a been a chore. Wasnt a lot of green tagging of basses that I seen, mainly that Spector. You can tell I was a bit disappointed in our new Guitar Center.
ok..just to clarify..I did buy the amp. I did not buy the bass. I just can't help thinking about that tone and for 399 it seems like such a bargain. I'm doubting a sterling purchase because I'm in the process of making a bass with the same exact pickup that is on a sterling and I have a bongo with double humbuckers. I hate G.A.S. I think I might have to make atrip back to guitar center.
I originally thought that too, but I turned the treble down and although you heard the sound acoustically, it did not come through the amp.
I wasn't actually making a judgment on the Legend - I think they're sweet. Just describing the Fieldy "tone."
All highs and lows. No mids, where the actual music is made. Clickity clackity....like a subwoofer playing rap, and a container of tic tacs falling down the stairs at the same time.
Alright guys..I bought it. $350, how could I say no. It is awsome with my amp and speaker combo now. As for the mids...I don't know. From what I have played so far, it has great mids, although there is little control of them. I'm fine with that though because I am absolutely flabergasted by the tone out of this thing. I'll post some pictures later when my heart stops racing and I finish the hw. I must fight the urge to play, I have so much work to do. I'll post a better review tomorrow when I "field test" it at church. Thanks for your comments though guys.
