What do Cliff Burton, Carol Kaye, and Robert Trujillo have in common?

I’m beginning to wonder if that is an oxymoron.

    Guitar Player cover story...October 1987.
EVH plays bass on Sammy Hagar's solo album. In the interview, Hagar blows so much smoke up Van Halen's ass about his bass playing.
I have never heard this album...so I should just keep my bazoo shut, right?

Anybody notice a curious absence from that list, from the rock & roll/hard rock world? I guess he'd want himself listed as an entertainer, anyway?!

I posted the list in part due to at least one notable omission. The interesting thing is if you instead search “bassist” the name is there.

It begs the old debate about “bass player” vs “bassist”. Is there a difference?

Is Yo Yo Ma a “cello player”? Or is he a “cellist”?

    This guy is, though:

"Carol taught me more about the bass than is decent."
    - Sting

I have *no* idea what that means, but hey, it’s Sting mostly endorsing her, sort of.

Ok, I’m dense. Who are you referring to?

  11. At a guess I'd say Gene Simmons. I only get that from the 'entertainer' part though. He has his fans but I wouldn't put him on any list of bass players...

I didn’t read the list, but I’m guessing Gene Simmons.

Playing in Metallica is a waste of Robert Trujillos skills/talent:

  15. Oh, Oh, I know that one! They all have a first and last name, which contains the letters L and O. :)

  16. I thought you were about to tell me that Carol has played bass on at least one Metallica studio track, which would almost surprise me.
