I don't own one, but when I investigated the possibility of a Sadowsky 5-string P-bass (no possibility, sadly) the prices quoted for other models started above $3000 and went up from there depending on model and features.

  3. Mine is pictured in my link below. There two pics of my jazz bass (carmel burst AAAAA quilt and great birdseye maple 'board, gold hardware) and one pic of the top for my spalted maple PJ4. You can also see my two Sadowsky guitars.

The basses with the superb primo tops, 4 string model are around $3300. Maybe a bit more but I don't recall the exact figures. Call Roger and ask. Don't forget to us the new 718 number.

Well worth the price. I've never regretted it for one second.

    Wow!Thats more than i expected.
Oh well, time to modify the old Fender.

  5. Check with Sadowsky anyway as he often has a used Sadowsky bass for sale for much less than a brand new one.

Thanks for the tip Jim,man thats a nice bass you got there.

  7. Those are about the right prices. Let me add that I own a 5 string that is incredible, and Roger has added his pick ups, preamp, strings, and occasional setup to my 73 Jazz Bass. I've given him hard earned money, but he's given more in return as far as service, sound, advice, etc. Recently in the studio, I've really gotten some great compliments on the sound, which has turned into more work for me. That said, I'm sure 20 years of playing has something to with it, but, I was invited back to record over tracks where peoples sound didn't make it. I consider all of my Sadowsky stuff an investment, and unlike the stock market, at the end of the month, if nothing happens I still have a great bass to play. Peace. A.

  8. My Sadowskys are the only basses I've ever owned that I felt were clearly worth their price.

I have two a PJ-5 and Vintage 5 and they are worth every penny... Brian at The Low End (www.thelowend.net) has a used Vintage 5 in 59' burst and maple board for $2500.00... Seems like a great price... Steven...

  17. I think that they usually go for brunettes with long legs and huge hoo-hoos. Or,maybe that's me. ;)

Unfortunately, I guess that whatever effort you make to improve any Fender, you'll never reach the quality of a Sadowsky. Though, it will be much easier to reach the price of a Sadowsky with improvements on a Fender.

In other words, what I mean is that Sadowsky's are somewhat what today's Fenders should be. It's hard to believe that such a company did so few improvements over the 30 or 40 past years, though they were a pioneer. It has probably to do with Leo Fender selling out his company to CBS in the mid-60's.

    All the best,
