A friend has one. It's extremely versatile with the two EMG-HZ soapbars and the 3-band EQ, but the tone is kinda lifeless. It gets a decent modern slap tone, a decent modern finger tone, and a decent pick tone, but nothing to write home about. It feels like some heavy compression is going on in there; the midrange has no balls. You could probably do better for the money. A Carvin LB70 at the same price won't have the fancy cosmetics (although Carvin certainly offers those), but will have better pickups and electronics--and that's saying a lot.
The October issue of Bass Player did a favorable review on the C-305. They seemed pretty impressed, but did mention that while it has a "modern hi-fi" look & feel, the tone is more "Rock" than anything else. - Frank
