  1. Just wondering how people refer to themselves, and indirectly, the instrument

I think the term "bassist" would make me sound better than I really am.

Bass Player suits me just fine...

Bassist or bass player, here. For some reason I don't like refering to my bass or myself as a guitar/guitarist...

i sometimes refer to myself as the 'byce plyah' ..... got that from the black dood who played/taught bass on the 'rock school' show many moons ago ..... he had a pretty thick british accent and that's the way it sounded spewing forth out of his gob ..... so i snatched it all away from him:smug:

  15. Fate tried to conceal me by naming me Cain.
  16. And as they round the turn it's neck and neck between bassist and bass player...

Bass guitarist is in a very distant third and apparently should not have entered this race.

Interesting, as this at least implies that few people refer to the instrument as a bass guitar, which I believe it technically is.

Although maybe it's an electric bass, or an electric bass guitar...

It's actually not a guitar at all. It's technically an "electric bass". A "bass guitar" would be a 6 string instrument tuned EADGBE an octave lower than the guitar. While this is very very similar to a bass, it's not the same.

Depends who I'm talking to. In french I say "bassiste", and english I say bass player mostly. If I wanna sound classy I'll say bassist in english too. :p
