What Do you guys think of this Fender?

  1. Hi,
I won this on Ebay and I'm not overly concerned as this is just for me to have something to play again until I get healthy and back on my feet financially but...I'm just curious about this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180194348596

As stated in the auction, the bass is listed stating the body and neck are american but the headstock isn't. I asked the seller about it and the response I got was that they took it to the local Fender dealer who gave them this information. The neck stamp is not even close to what it "should" be for a '63 but if someone was going to fake something, why put a mexican serial number and the squier series labels on there. I'm thinking this is just a straight up MIM fender squier series from aroun 94-95. It's local so I can visit the same fender dealer just to see what he says.

Like I said, just curious but at the bare minimum, I'll have something to play in a couple days.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Neck is American, but not the head? Nice. :D

The smudging on the date stamp wasn't obviously done on purpose either.

But, for $150, you can't really go wrong.

The seller sounds absolutely ignorant regarding what he is trying to sell.
I wonder who has been feeding him all of the nonsense posted in his auction
as well. An American neck but the headstock is not???

I also want to find where I can buy this "compacitor" thing that was installed in this
bass.Does it improve the tone of this american bodied P-bass with the amero-mex
    neck?I needed a good laugh.Thanks!

This listing was either a major scam attempt or the seller is totally ignorant when it comes to guitars. I would hope it is the latter. He/She has an impessive feedback score so I'm leaning toward ignorant. Having said this, I agree that you made a good deal on whatever it is at $127.50. Enjoy! :smug:

EDIT: OK, check out this persons feedback detail. He sell tools. No doubt he knows tools & not musical instruments. His description is probably second hand info from whoever he got the guitar from.

  9. The guy that was selling the bass works for the owner who sells tools...I'm picking it up Wednesday and will let you guys know everything I can about this thing.

These were MIM Fender's from the early 90's. I think they usually sell for around $300ish, or at least the Jazz Basses do. I had one of the jazzes, it was a nice bass and a great deal.

I'm sure it'll be an OK bass, and for the cash, you're certainly not out any money, if you don't like it I'm sure you can sell it again for what you paid for it.

EDIT: Ya never know, it may even be much better than OK! That'd be cool.

or worse says the neck has bow in it.. But if he cant tell that the neck is American and the Headstock isnt how would he know all it needs is the truss rod adjusted.

Hope it works out for ya.. :)

    Nice pickguard at least..

  13. I can handle adjusting the truss rod, if it needs it and cleaning up any issues it may have. I didn't bid much since it was kind of questionsable with blurry pics so I'll see what comes of it. I had an '83 Squire made in Japan and it was great! the most intriguing part is that he said he took it to the authorized Fender Dealer who gave him this information. I'm going to get in touch with them just to see if they have any clue what they are talking about.

Either way, I'll at least have a bass to bang around on for a little while until I pick up some more gear again. And as some of you mentioned, maybe once I get it home it could turn out to be a nice bass after all.

  14. My X-wife picked me up one at an auction. Very good sound, Neck could not be straightened.(Relief) Bought, $88.00 Sold $100.

For the money you probably have done great! I hope it works out well for
you as it most likely is a straight up 94 Squire Bass. The add however was
quite funny to say the least.

  16. It must sound good cause its got a new "COMPACITOR" in it!!! Had to chuckle at that one! Now if only I could make a bass that can time travel...............

    Cheers
    Rusty

  17. "The Bass is heavier (9.5 lbs in bag) than an average bass because of it's age""Body and neck are, however, American, as you can tell from pictures"

Time travel would be a nice feature! however, this bass must be like mefor 2 reasons, it get's heavier as it ages...:)
and you can tell it's american by looking at it!

  19. Ok, I went to pick this bass up today. I stopped at the bank and got out the cash. I arrived to pick up the bass and as soon as I unzipped the case I knew the whole truth about this beast. I ended up leaving with my cash still safe in my wallet.

The neck was 100% a mexican squire series, no question but in horrible condition. Chunks missing, gauges and just trashed. AND THAT WAS THE GOOD PART! the body was American as stated in the ad...made in the good ol USA except in someone's garage. The paint had drips and runs and was probably the worst attempt of trying to make a body I have ever seen. The pickups were out of some incredibly cheap model and were trashed like the neck. The gig bag was brand new and in incredible shape!

I showed everything to the owner of the store so he would know what his employee was trying to pass off. He was very understanding and didn't give me a hard time about cancelling the whole deal.

I'm just going to save and get the bass I actually want, a bongo..or 'ray.

  20. Actually, I think you can...
