Nice positive topic, and self-explanatory. Let's keep open minds. Go.
LOL! And why not, indeed? I'll drink to that.
The wheel, electricity and wireless broadcasting (whether that be TV, internet, telephones or the humble FM radio)
Not blowing ourselves to bits (so far).
The scientific method, mathematics, and beer.
It's fine to pick out specific aspects. Myself, I'd just call it "science" and include the lot. That's definitely on my list. I think of the whole body of scientific understanding as a singular achievement, contributed to by many individuals past, present and future.
Air conditioning. The weather averages 98+ degrees in the summer with 90% humidity here. No bueno.
Fire, the wheel, written language, and Ibuprofen.
The four great inventions are the plow, wheel, printing press, and internet so those should get a mention. In art I'd go with the sistine chapel, Beethoven 3, Animal House, and Pulp Fiction. For science; algebra, Newton's laws, the discovery of the curvature of space-time, and NASA.
Birth control pills
The development of the transistor, and semiconductor technologies.
Our greatest achievement has yet to happen.
Some very interesting picks here.
Maybe. Maybe not.
As far as to date stuff, I would have to go with all of our medical achievements. 2 years ago, my son had to have open heart surgery to replace a valve in his heart. He also had heart surgery at 2 days old but it was not open heart. I look at all of the medical knowledge we as humans have and it is amazing to me. Countless lives saved as a result. 30 years ago, my son would not have lived passed 3 days.
Last year, my wife gets diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, she is still with us as well. I give credit to God first but am glad that man had the knowledge of how to deal with these issues as well.
Well to date I'd pick putting a man on the Moon,...landing vehicles on Mars.
Maybe also the hydrogen full cell car.
Our greatest achievement; IMO, will be an end to classism, conflict, factionilzation, and financialization. I'm not very optimistic about that though.
Writing. Without that, the others either wouldn't have happened or we wouldn't know about them.
OK, except maybe for beer.
