As the titles states... (as well as finger-style for the other 50% of playing)

Im currently using Sunbeams and love them, altho reading into some other threads nickel-plated are not 'the norm' (?) for slap...

(on a side note, aren't P-Nut's and Flea's Boomers nickel plated?)

Ugh, 'the norm.' If you like the sound you're getting from your current nickel-plated strings, then that's YOUR norm. Play what you like and what sounds good to you.

    Yes, as are all Boomers.

I have to agree. If you like the sound then don't worry about what others are playing. Keep in mind that what sounds good to you on one bass might not sound as good on another. In my opinion steel can sometimes sound too harsh when slapped - but it all depends on a combination of various fators, including your hands and ears.

Sunbeams or Hi-beams I prefer a round core. Buy a set of hi-beams I think you'll like them. I play finger, slap and chords and they sound great for all styles.

I too use Sunbeams for slap. I also have another bass I like to slap which has Fat Beams on it. If slap were the only consideration, I might lean towards the Fat Beams, but overall I prefer the Sunbeams, and they have plenty of top end for slap, IMO. I once tried nickel Lo-Riders. I found them way too stiff for slap.

    They sound awesome as well!

I always agree with what you are saying about personal preference! Its cheaper to ask than buy 4 sets of different strings and set them up :bassist:

I'm not particularly a slapper. But I can tell you right now that THE DR string for slapping is Hi-Beams. Hands down. Light-gauge Hi-Beams, that is.

I've been going back and forth between high-beams and low-riders. After a year or so I've narrowed it down to high-beams.
