With a bandplaying bassist I mean a bassist that provides a bassline, not a wanna-be-guitarist soloing on a 6(or more) string!

Only pick one between the first, second and third,
and one option between fourth and fifth please!

If you have a multi-effect pedal, you can also choose which effects you use...

edit: oops, I forgot the "I play clean" option... :(

  2. I use separate modules, don't use them TOO much, and i use

    - pitch shifter (works a LOT (!) better than an octaver.
    - overdrive
    - phaser
    - compressor

Hmm...aren't effects for guitar players? :D

  4. Either the average respondent has a lower IQ, or this poll suffers from a design inferiority in that it does not delineate that it is a 2-question poll, but the numbers are atrocious. A majority does seem to favor the chorus, as it is the "tamest" of all effects, and thus tends to be more used. A close second is the almighty envelope filter, but for many working bassists, there is hardly the occasion for one. You just gotta be in the right ensemble to really be able to tastefully cut loose with FX.

You forgot rack mount multi fx units.

  6. I voted stompboxes, overdrive, chorus and compressor and now I see that these categories are the top ones... fascinating (actually I currently don't have a good chorus or compressor so right now I don't use them much, but these three effects are simply the most useful and the only ones I would use except for also a volume pedal but that isn't really an effect)

well an octaver isnt ment to shift pitch, it adds a tone an octave lower and mixes it.

I favour the latter - just when you think you have seen the worst poll with the least thought put into it, another one comes along to prove you wrong! ;)

    :p
the poll options on a vbulletin board lack options :p
    there are actually 3 questions:
    1) seperate effects or multieffects
    2) do you use much effects or not
    3) which effects do you use

    well...

I tend to use effects sparingly, but most of the time I have a compressor with mild settings and an overdrive that just barely breaks up on heavier plucking for some added texture in the sound.

On one or two songs per gig there is also some chorusing and one or two songs where I use an envelop filter or a flanger, but that's only when the song needs that special sound.

  12. Sprinkler, the intentions are good & honest & true (etc--almost quoted a Cake lyric) but the way this poll is laid out renders the numbers absolutely meaningless, since the almighty computer server can only break down an overall percentage. Those of us who did select multiple items as you had wished are left to ponder which of our multiple answers actually made the tally. This might've been a good poll if it were single issue. Granted, you may have had to do 3 or 4 threads to get the answers you are looking for, but the data would've been very useful also. A for effort tho'.

As this is my 99th post, I shall hereby dedicate it to #99 himself. Long live Wayne Gretzky.

Oh yeah...let's not forget Barbara Feldon in her prime either. Sometimes there are enough cables in my musical environment to render me as clumsy as Maxwell Smart.

I use a Basspodpro and a pedalboard with an Akai Headrush,Boss OC-2 octave,Fulltone Bassdrive, and an FB-4 footswitch for the Pod. I use the onboard Pod compressor and I have a BBE Sonicmax in my rig that is on the whole gig. Of the outboard effects, the OC-2 gets the most use. Of the onboard Pod effects, the Mutron model gets the most work with the Synthbass a close second.
