My longtime friend and guitar play did right by me for my birthday and now i want to return the favor.
I want to get him a guitar effect but not over $100.
he just got the maestro fuzz reissue but was disappointed in it and sent it back. We're both old enough to remember him enjoying the original.
    Any ideas.
He has some very nice guitars: Rick 12, Fender Esquire, Fender Tele Mex with Stringbender and more.
Vintage type sound/vibe, if not straight reissues, is the desired goal.
He has a tube pro reverb.
I hope you dont mind is i post this on usenet as well.

    Try shopping around here:

I really like the Boss SD-1/808 pedal for $95, but it might be a little too Rock & Roll for someone looking for a vintage vibe.

    Take a look...

Is he a vintage/boutique fx snob? If so, good luck for the under $99 part.

My recommendation: MXR phase 90. The Guyatone stuff is underrated too.

    IMO, a chorus pedal + a Ric 12 string = Very nice :D
  8. yeah, I'm gonna have to go with chorus, too, Farley.

Hey Jive, where can I order those?

I could use a bit of a talent boost and I know some people who could REALLY use an Ego Compresser! :D

it's me who needs "Talent Boost" and i'm definitely ordering the "Ego Compressor" for the lead singer. But that still leaves the lead guitarist.
He is not an effects snob but also is not into the new stuff, probably just out of habit. He does have a chorus, one of those old little red boxes.
I think he wants something with oomph because as i said he got the Maestro Fuzz reissue but didnt care for it. The lack of sustain was disappointing, maybe that's the way it was but it's not the way we remember it.
Of course, i have a stake it this, because although he gets great sounds, it would be nice for the band for him to have some kind of master blaster option.
Thanks for all of the replies!

It's an MXR compressor he has.
No im thinking Vox Wah-wah, although as a sort of semi-country rock band, that's the last thing we need. But we might need "Season of the Witch" to kill time.
