my fingers, thumb (but not for slapping), a pick, and the bass's volume & tone controls. the only EQ'ing I use is a little bass boost.

  3. Don't get me started.

All right, since I'm on the topic...

    distortion
    4-band parametric eq (2 sometimes)
    stacked low-pass filters
    auto-wah

and for intros, intermezzos, bridges and solos I use:

    synthesizer
    chorus
    flanger
    phaser
    digital delay (2 sometimes)
    analog delay sim
    flanged delay
    chorused delay
    detuner (8 of'm sometimes)
noisegate (when it gets too "crowded")
    bit of compression
    bit of reverb
    bit of pitch shifter

BassBalls is the only effect I own, don't use it too much, only when I'm feeling funky. :D

  6. Depends...
    EQ (most of the time)
Overdrive/Distortion (for a bit of grit)
    Wah, Phaser, synth (funk)
chorus, octaver, all of the avobe (solos)

The main tone comes from my fingers (I play straight 80 percent of the time)

Does my BBE Sonic Maximizer count? The way I use it sometimes, it is like a stomp box.

Otherwise, I have a Korg ToneWorks PX3B. The factory presets suck but the ones I programmed in peel paint. Thet're mostly layers of delay, distortion, panning, flanger, and sometimes, tremelo.

When it comes to a good bass tone and color, I'm Mr. Natural, no efx.

Any happy Pod or DOD owners around here? They look kind of interesting.

i use compressor and eq a lot. i getting a warmer sound out of my amp when i use comp. I use eq to shave of a little mid so i can get a bassy sound with it out being muddy.

How could you use 2-band without having the bass sound muddy or trebly?

    Everytime:
    - my controls on the bass (such as balance, eq)
    - noise gate

During ballads or solo mode on fretless:
    - stereo chorus and/or reverb
    - sometimes compressor

    During slap mode:
    - compressor (I think thats a necessary effect when you slap, but not too strong with regard to the dynamics)
    - sometimes a bit chorus

  11. Extremely happy Bass POD owner here.......
Go check one out at your local "fun stuff" store......
I can't believe the sounds this thing has, and it is really simple to use.....For Valentine's day my fiance' better get me the pedal system for it (hint hint) I think she was reading over my shoulder...... But anyway the POD has little or no noise and all sorts of groovy tones....
