What genre is my band?

  1. Any comments would be much appreciated in regards to what genre's/artist influences you personally hear in our music. I feel that our current genre label doesn't quite portray what we do and this makes things difficult when booking.

You can listen to an EP for free at this link or Spotify (get those numbers up!):

  3. Nice stuff. But I think your name your name could be as much of a problem. When I saw the name Ladyslug, I wasn't expecting sophisticated, jazzy pop.

Latin lounge disco? I definitely don't know the genre of your project, but the band name is pretty incongruent with the vibe of the music, in my opinion.

'Ladybug' would describe your band better then 'Ladyslug'.

No idea about genre, but I like it. The only good thing about your name is the cool logo.

I hear a bit o' Steely Dan in there, with a schmeer of Kate Bush

LadySlug is a bit creepy for my taste though given the music....

I agree with everything that's already been said:
A bit of Steely Dan with a touch of Yes
    Adult contempo
    Light jazz
    Cool logo
Weird name (might be a good thing. People are sure to remember it)
    Great sound
Love the bass sound, especially those low notes.

Yeah, love the music but hate the name. Ladybug like someone else said or perhaps Lady Luck? ...anything but Lady Slug. Here in up over in the Pacific Northwest we have some big slugs and there is nothing attractive about them at all...

    Love your playing though!

Music is kind of all over the place but it is progressive in nature. There are elements of jazz, rock and funk. I also agree that the band name doesn't help. I was expecting to hear metal.

Jazz. Why split hairs further than that?

Bounced your name off my guitarist GF plus three other women I know who are into music big time. Their consensus?

    a) The music is fine. Sounds good.
    b) Just call it jazz. Or fusion.
    c) Lose the name Ladyslug. Pronto.

PS - one said I should tell you almost no species of slug are one fixed gender or another. They're hermaphrodites.

Dig the band name and logo. I think it is clever and a bit perverse. And I like it when a band name doesn't telegraph the genre or even throws the listener a curveball. Don't change it.

I would call the genre Smooth Cocktail Groove.
