I haven't been able to check in here for a while now..but I see Jeff Berlin's forum is gone. I always liked reading what he had to say. Was it just a matter of not enough time?

There are 2 threads already in Off Topic about this.

  3. well, let's see... it begins with "he's" and ends with "gone"... god knows why, i didn't check his forums that regularly, but it has something to do with him not wanting to put up with the abuse of certain tb'ers for some reason...

i'll leave this discussion to be completed by someone who knows more.

Both Dann Glenn and Jeff Berlin have closed their forums. Oddly enough, they didn't announce this themselves, they had someone else post a MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT to both their forums, basically stating that they were tired of putting up with some percieved slights. The guy went on to sling a bunch of abusive terms himself, aimed at most anyone who's been at odds with either Glenn or Berlin on TB. The whole thing is pretty slack.

Dann and Jeff also deleted every thread in their forums, so Paul can't even put up a read-only archive.

Well, just when you thought things were okay with those guys, we have this. Them deleting off all of the threads in their forum is a low blow if in fact that is what happened. Earlier in this thread it's mentioned that there were two threads about this in OT, like Ed, I don't seem to able to find them.

I wouldn't doubt they've been closed as they both turned into a hot-headed argument between pro and con JB/DG factions.

Phil, I was especially interested to see your response to the guy who made the original announcement/rant. He seemed to have developed the view that JB/DG were both completely faultless and that they'd been abused and basically "run off" by Talkbassers. He evidently never read any of DG's more vehement outbursts toward you and Brad Johnson.

Mike, this is all very confusing now because there's no paper trail to refer to and I didn't even get a chance to see what led to the events that have unfolded. I though everything was harmonious over there and I check in today and they're both gone, poof!

BTW: A young lady is enjoying the Lakland 5 that I bought from you months ago.

  10. I'm going to take a very dangerous step here :eek and question Paul's judgement on bringing those two to TB.

I'm not questioning the idea of TalkBass Pros in general--Mike Dimin and Mike Watt are cool people, and are fountains of useful knowledge--but considering the volume of hate mail that floods Bass Player's offices every time that DG or JB unholsters his proverbial poison pen, didn't Paul see this coming?

(I'm going to withhold my personal opinions on the subject; it suffices to say that I come down on the side of Phil and Brad.)

I don't know, Jeff is an amazing player and a very nice guy. I donot consider him a friend, but I have been around him quite a bit in the past and he has been nothing but cordial to me. We certainly don't agree on everything, but he is an amazing player with alot of knowledge, who IMO deserves our respect. We ALL deserve each others respect. I think that is the main problem here, there is alot of disrespectful people on here who don't seem to care about others. We may all disagree, but we are all just trying to help each other out. Why does there EVER have to be rudeness here, it is never called for...

  12. Exactly. JB is indeed a very nice guy, and one of a group of about five or six players on this planet who deserve the title of "best". It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can abuse or belittle someone of Jeff's abilities and knowledge.

I don't think anyone here at TB (with any shred of intelligence..i.e. anyone who matters) has questioned the talent/knowledge of JB or DG. What's being questioned is "people skills". You may have had good experiences with them...others have not. Some of those others had valid differing viewpoints, expressed in mature fashion and were summarily ignored or shot down by the Pros In Question. I witnessed this, and not just on TB, not just on TBL, but in person also. Seems to be a recurring pattern.

Well, as I have said elsewhere, the final straw for Jeff was when somebody went into a long rant about how his playing was soul-less and unemotional - quite out of the blue and nothing to do with the subject at hand. This was in a thread where a lot of people jumped on Jeff for a throw-away comment about being one of the early pioneers of slap.

I know Dann can come across as a bit eccentric, but Jeff seemed to be fairly consistent and was clearly annoyed at the way he was hounded or even "harassed" on a few issues that he felt inappropriate for this medium - I think his going is a big loss to the forum.

This is a moderated forum. What happened last weekend is akin to hi-end's (n-word) escapades a few weeks ago. Talkbass was not shut down, the offending posts were deleted and we went on.

I would guess that Mike is talking about people who aren't just trolling for a fight, people who ask a question in a sincere fashion.

Dealing with trolls on the net is even easier than IRL. You can either let them get to you or take them for what they are and in some cases have fun with them. Most trolls aren't very bright.

A recent Troll-powered thread... (and nobody died)

In my opinion, all of Jeff's problems could have been alleviated if he had learned to use the phrase, "in my opinion."
