What happened to Rob Trujillo?

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by funkysurfer, Nov 29, 2005.

  1. He was one of my biggest influences back in the Infectious Grooves & Sucidal days. I was just listening to "The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move" album and once again I was overwhelmed with how great this guy really is.

Quite some time ago I listened to some tracks from what I believe was the St. Anger CD and I was let down. IMO, it seemed that Rob had fallen victim to Lars & James dictatorship. The basslines had no substance. Actually, I can't even remember hearing the bass. Anyway, does anybody feel the same or am I missing something here?

Bob Rock played bass on St.Anger. Trujillo got hired after that.

I tihnk trujillo is good for metallica. THe few live clips i have seen, his tone is better than the cd and his basslines have a little more taste.

I don't know why people don't dig Bob Rock's bass playing. I think Bob's a really good bassist. He didn't try to stand out because that's not what he does. And considering the drastic difference in the sound of Metallica before he produced them, I would say he has plenty of input on their sound.

However, after watching that movie, I think Bob should beat the crap out of Lars, as should everyone in the band. Gawd, it must be torture to work with that tool.

  7. Thanks for bringing me up to date guys. I had thought that Rob played on that album. It's a good thing it wasn't him because now I will anticipate their next album.

Anybody know when one is due?

  8. after watchthing somekind of monster it was clear out why metallica isn't as good as they used ot be

I cant wait to hear what Rob does on the next Metallica record.

  12. He got paid a very large amount of money to join that project.

He also got to hang out with that weird shrink from the "Some Kind Of Monster" DVD. Quite frankly, I could crush him in a competitive game of miniature golf. ;)

  13. I think it'll be a mix of old metallica (Pre-'AJFA...') with funk rythms, if you catch my drift. It will be new, innovative and exciting for the band...

Yeah, it would have been nice if they had tried out some better bassists. Rob's awesome, but compared to those other guys they auditioned, he's a god.

  16. On 'Frantic', there is no bass track in itself, just what leaked into the other mikes. :rollno:

Also, has anyone else noticed how the album's 'production' becomes more polished as the album goes on? The last track sounds almost professional!

    No kidding!
I could not believe how ****ty some of the bassists were that auditioned. When playing "For Whom The Bell Tolls", Twiggy Ramirez's bass sounded like it was out of tune..he screwed up a few times also..did anyone else notice this?
