So we had a warm week after a deep freeze. Lots of plants got creamed by the ice. Now, before I have had a chance to do ten minutes of yard work, things are starting to bloom. (Welcome to Eastern NC. If you don't like the weather, wait until Tuesday. It'll be different.)

So here are my palm trees. Many of the branches/leaves (don't even know if that's the right term) look dead. They are brown amd crunchy. If I cut off everything that appears to be dead, I'll cut of everything.

    Please advise, over.

Yeah my 4 acre yard has deciduous oaks, pine trees and paln trees in the same yard. That's what we do around here.

  6. Definitely not a 1st world problem, as palm trees also grow in developing countries.

Looks to me like "green centers, brown and crunchy ends" and as such I'd probably try waiting until real spring to assess what lived and remove what died, ...But... I know <bleep>-all about palm trees, specifically - that's just sorta general plant advice.

If you were my neighbor I'd let you borrow my chainsaw and extension ladder-problem solved forever, then we'd fire-up ''D'' Weber.

Looks like a palmetto to me.

That’s it. That’s all I can add to the conversation.

    It's magnificent....
I vote cut it back, wait and bear the yard-shame. Let spring decide its fate.

I'm in Virginia Beach. We lost a couple of things this winter. That 2 weeks below 20° was brutal, just to get followed up with snow. Schools have added 15 min/day to the next 2 1/2 months to make up lost time.

Those palms look rough. You should probably sit on them, but the fact that they're browning all over makes them look like they're gone.

Hi, BS in botany and MS in plant cell bio here.

Bent the brown fonds' "stalks" - if they snap they're dead. If not they could survive. Check back every few days.

Also, the first result is spot on.
