What if Heavy Metal had to have a Double Bass?

I was wondering what if electric bass never came to someones mind and heavy metal players had to play with a double bass. Wouldn't that be interesting to hear? So i want to make a contest for someone to play a heavy metal song with an upright. Winner gets bragging rights and can say "Ha, ha! I played a heavy metal song on a double bass!"

One night I had fun plugging my DB into my pedal board, fuzzing it up, and playing "Black Sabbath" (the song, by the band) with vocal. Does that count???

I believe Christian from Fear Factory plays his double bass on the album version of "Edgecrusher" on Obsolete.

Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory played upright on a few tunes but now plays guitar in the band. Yes, it sounds cool!

It would be very hard to prevent feedback in a live situation. Maybe an EUB would work.

Yeah, it does sound like crap, I assumed it was because it looks like someone recorded it with a phone.

I saw another vid by them, it was fantastic, none of that horrible feedback, still lookin':)

Naw, it was one of those serendipitous things that just happened while I was checking the performance of the pickup I'd just installed in the thing.

  19. OMG, tune it to teh low C and scoop the mids!!!!!! METAL!!
  20. There are some bands who play a heavy sort of psychobilly, who play what's essentially metal, tonewise, and they do just fine with an upright bass.
